New York Comic
Con 2012 could not possibly be any larger than what it already is. When the
convention first opened its doors back in 2006 it underestimated the amount of
people it would draw. Today, in 2012, the New
York Post reports online, that just days before the event was even set to start
it was already sold out. The Post also quotes a convention head as saying that tickets
have sold out this year quicker than ever before. If you like comics, animes,
movies, video games or anything else related along those lines, AND you happen to be in New York this
weekend, then this is definitely something you should try to finds tickets to.
Some NYCC Background
ReedPOP, a
branch of publisher Reed Elsevier, is responsible for bringing fans all around
the world the New York Comic Con. For those who have heard of Reed Elsevier before, it
may seem weird that a publisher who mostly focuses on science and medicine, put
on a pop culture expo show. Known for the class of events Reed Elsevier puts on
around the world, ReedPOP was specifically created to showcase events that were
built with only the fans in mind. NYCC is not ReedPOP’s only pop culture
convention they have and host. ReedPOP is also responsible for other well-known
trade shows and expos such as the UFC Fan Expo, Star Wars Celebration, and the video game specific PAX series of
shows.

Well, aside from being a heavily packed weekend simply by
the amount of visitors the Javits Center will have. The New York Comic Con also
comes jam-packed with a lot of treats and surprises for those who are lucky
enough to attend. Judging from the gigantic
list of artists, writers, and actors that will be in attendance, this
weekend is sure to be amazing. Guests can also expect to see panels such as
Nickelodeon’s The
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Adult Swim’s Venture Bros. Of course, one can also expect Marvel to stop by and
surprise everyone one at some point with news of what they have cooking over at
the House of Ideas. One of those surprises came early Friday morning when
Marvel revealed some more details concerning their “Season One” line of
stories. IGN.com’s Joey
Esposito showcased all those details as well as photos for what exactly
Marvel has in store not just for Wolverine and Iron Man, but also for all their
fans.
For those gamers out there, NYCC also has a lot in store
for you. NYCC will not only give you a better glimpse and Square-Enix’s next Tomb Raider installment, which already
seems unlike any of its predecessors. Upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusives are
also being showcased. One of those exclusives is Supermassive Games’ Until
Dawn, a horror film-like game. With multiple endings, an interesting
storyline, and mechanics that run a lot like other story driven games; Until Dawn is sure to be one of next
year’s games to watch.
Thanks to the marvels of the Internet, we are lucky
enough that we do not physically have to be at the expo to enjoy all the
tidbits of information it has to offer. Keeping up with the news from the
convention floor is as easy as searching for it on your favorite search engine.
